The Govenor regrets to announce the death of Mr Stephen Carlyle Martin who was drowned in Lake Victoria when the launch in which he was travelling from Mageta Island to Kisumu overturned on 14th July 1955.
Mr Martin joined the Public Works Dept as an Inspector of Water Supplies on 13th November 1951and was transfered to the Prisons Dept in 1st August 1953. He has been Commandant of the Mageta Island Prison Camp since it was established nearly a year ago.
By his untimely death the Government has lost the services of a loyal and efficient officer.
